It is not unusual for some visitors to Copper Mountain to experience mild
to moderate symptoms of altitude sickness which can include headache, nausea,
unusual tiredness, and trouble sleeping. Most of these symptoms will subside
in a day or two on their own but there are a few simple steps you can take
to head-off or reduce the effects of the high altitude on your body:
• Eat more foods which are high in carbohydrates
• Drink more water
• Take in less salt
• Your doctor may be able to prescribe medication this will assist
in lessening symptoms (prior to your travel)
Attendees who have experienced moderate to severe symptoms in the past
or fear that they may suffer symptoms due to an existing medical condition
may wish to consider making arrangements for oxygen prior to their visit.
Alpine Oxygen specializes in assisting visitors to the mountain areas by
providing door-to-door delivery of oxygen. They are able to fill a prescription
from the visitor’s own physician or provide them with a phone consultation
with their doctor. In many cases, nightly use of oxygen while sleeping will
be sufficient to eliminate most, if not all symptoms. Often, insurance companies
will cover the use of oxygen, Alpine can answer your insurance questions.
